1995 Módena: Miss Sarajevo [U2 & Luciano Pavarotti]

El concurso de belleza, celebrado el 29 de mayo de 1993 en Bosnia-Herzegovina, formaba parte de una serie de actos organizados para mostrar la resistencia de los bosnios frente al asedio al que eran sometidos por parte de las fuerzas serbo-bosnias.

Inela Nogić-Duraković era entonces una joven de 17 años que ganaría el concurso. Aunque la leyenda urbana prefiere imaginar que fue una víctima más del asedio, Inela Nogic sobrevivió, quizá gracias a la fama tras ganar el concurso de belleza, en 1994 abandonó Sarajevo para vivir en Holanda.

Las imágenes del certamen fueron utilizadas por el fotógrafo norteamericano Bill Carter en su documental sobre Sarajevo, titulado precisamente, "Miss Sarajevo". Bill Carter había llegado a Sarajevo en marzo de 1993 formando parte de la organización humanitaria "The Serious Road Trip".

Bill Carter conoce a Bono/U2 durante el conflicto serbo-bosnio y le propone hacer conexiones en directo vía satélite durante los conciertos que U2 realiza en su tour Zoo TV, para dar a conocer la situación de la población asediada de Sarajevo. Bono participa en la idea de rescatar imágenes de la vida en Sarajevo y produce el documental de Bill Carter, que se titulará "Miss Sarajevo", a petición de Bono.

Surge así la idea de la composición musical "Miss Sarajevo" que sería estrenada en 1995, en Módena, con la participación de Luciano Pavarotti, y la presencia de Lady Di entre el público.
